Nintendogs+Cats Walk Presents Guide!

(NOTE: The information and chart in this guide are taken from the official N+C Guide Book which was only released in Japan. I’ve simply recreated the chart and translated the information into English to share with y’all).

This is a guide to the presents found on walks in the N+C game! First is a handy chart showing all the possible gifts you can find on regular dog walks as well as where to find them and their rarity. It also lists all the possible gifts your Kitten can bring you.

Below the chart there are some tips on how to increase your present findings!

Personal Note: This chart is exactly as it appears in the guidebook. I disagree with a few of its rarity ratings but I decided to leave everything as is. Also the chart only refers to regular walks, NOT the pedometer walks (which has a much larger pool of items).

Present Finding Tips!

*During a walk you’ll find present boxes your dog can pick up. They may contain any of the above listed items in the chart. Some presents will be obvious in the middle of the road. Others may be hidden in the grassy patches, so be sure to let your dog visit all the grass spots!

*In the Downtown and Seaside areas, you’ll often see small traffic cones. Slow down your dog and have him carefully weave around the cones without touching them. If he does it correctly a present will appear at the end! This takes a lot of practice and is best done with a calmer well-trained dog. Having a small dog also helps as the bigger breeds tend to hit the cones more often. Note: there will be various cone set-ups, some with a few widely spaced out (easier to weave through for large dogs), and others with lots close together. I haven’t found a difference in doing either, the presents are the same. I think the various set-ups are simply to cater to puppies of all sizes.

*Occasionally during a walk, in any of the main areas, a sign will appear for what is called the “Secret Path” (the sign will show a silhouette of a person walking their dog). GO THERE! On the Secret Path there will be many presents! If you go on the Downtown or Seaside secret paths there will also be lots of cones to weave through (a great chance to practice)!

*Dogs are more likely to find more/better presents if they are well taken care of! Make sure your dog is physically fit, well-fed, hydrated, and clean! Most importantly, make sure he is HAPPY! Spend plenty of time playing with him and training him!

*According to the official Personality Guide, dogs with the following personalities are more likely to find rare items during walks.

(Note: I have not tested this out myself so I’m unsure of how true it is…)

This male/female wags for both friends and strangers.

This male/female is fond of people and will approach anyone.

This male/female is friendly with anyone, even new people/strangers.

*To get your Kitten to bring you a gift you must leave your 3DS open and running by itself for about 30-40 minutes. Make sure you have it facing away from you so that the face-detection camera doesn’t detect you. After about 40 minutes your Kitten will leave. Get your 3DS and tap the bottom screen. Your Kitten will enter your house with a present! List of possible items your kitten can bring you are listed in the chart above!

How to play old Windows 3/95 games on modern computers!

Here is an easy tutorial on how to play very old computer games (from the 1990s) on modern computers! Note: This will only work with Windows 3.1 compatible games (will also work for some Windows 95 games too)! So make sure to check if your chosen game is compatible beforehand! This tutorial should work for all systems provided you download the compatible apps for your system.

1. Make a folder in your C: Drive. Call it whatever you want but keep it short (like “win3” or “oldgames”)

2. Download the Dos system emulator “DosBox” here.

3. Download the Windows 3.1 application from this page and extract the contents into the special C: folder you made in Step 1.

4. Insert the game’s disk in your computer if you have it. Or, if you can find it, download its ISO online and mount it using a virtual drive program like Daemon Tools or WinEmu (both can be found for free online). Then copy all of the disk’s files into the folder from Step 1.

5. Open the DosBox program. A couple of black windows will pop up. In the main bigger one:

type and enter: mount c c:\YourFolderName

Then type and enter: c:

Finally type and enter: windows.bat

6. A couple new windows should open up showing the Windows 3 interface. If the “Main” window is not already up then under the “Program Manager” window click the “Main” option. On the “Main” window select “Windows Setup”. On the “Windows Setup” page click “Options” at the top and from the drop down list select “Change System Settings”. In the new window change the display to the setting “640×480 256 Colors” (scroll to the top, it’s one of the first listed). NOTE: Most games of this era run best under these settings, but you can always change it to best suit your particular game.

7. Select Ok and close the “Windows Setup” window. Back to the “Main” window, select “File Manager”. In the new window find and select the game’s setup installation file (usually called “setup.exe” but it may be different so try all the exe files until you find it).

8. Once the game’s setup has opened go through the installation process as normal. NOTE: if after installation it asks to install QuickTime or another program be sure to install that too!

9. Once everything’s finished it should take you back to the Program Manager and your game will now be an option. Click to open it and the game should run great! Enjoy!

10. When you’re done just exit the game and manually close the Program Manager which will exit you out of Windows 3 and back to the black Dos screen. Whenever you want to play again just open DosBox and

type and enter: mount c c:\YourFolderName

then type and enter: c:

then type and enter: windows.bat

The Windows 3 interface will open and you then can select your game from the list of programs! Thanks for reading my tutorial, comment if you have any questions and I’ll try to help! 🙂
